Watson was awarded the 2010 Allan Border Medal and again in 2011, becoming the second player (after Ricky Ponting) to win back-to back Allan Border Medals. He won a total of 6 awards in the Tests, ODI & T20I player of the year awards category, which is the most by any player. He is the only player to win "Player of the Year" award in all formats.
He holds several records in ODIs and T20Is. Some of them include, the highest ODI score in a run-chase, highest one day international score by an Australian batsman, highest ODI batting average of all Australian opening batsmen who have scored over 1000 runs. highest T20I strike rate of all opening batsmen who have played over 30 matches.

Having won eight doubles and seven mixed doubles Grand Slam titles and finishing as runner up in numerous other Grand Slam finals, he is considered to be one of the greatest and most respected contemporary doubles and mixed doubles players in the world. He is the oldest man to have won a grand slam title.
He is the recipient of India's highest sporting honour, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, in 1996–1997; the Arjuna Award in 1990; and the Padma Shri award in 2001 for his outstanding contribution to tennis in India. Paes completed the career grand slam in men's doubles after winning the Australian Open in 2012. He is the sports ambassador of the Indian state of Haryana.

She is also regarded as the best grass court player of her generation and she is widely considered as one of the all-time greats of women's tennis.
